Wave Break, the new game from Funktronic Labs, is finally coming to platforms other than Stadia. Though the studio is mostly known for its VR games, Wave Break is not a VR project, and it’s arriving this summer on PC and Switch. Wave Break is sort of a skateboarding game where you grind and kickflip, except you’re skating boats on the open (and sometimes closed) seas. Funktronic calls it “skateboating”, which is pretty on point. But that’s not the only twist: Wave Break is also a shooter. You won’t just best opponents with your sick moves, you’ll also definitely blast them off their boats. It’s certainly a weird mix, but looks like a lot of fun. If you never played it on Stadia, there’s a closed beta going on right now. It’s available until March 21, and you can sign up at the official site to get a key. When the full game launches, you’ll be able to play the challenge-based campaign solo, or duke it out with others online or locally. Funktronic also promised that the Switch version will run at 60fps, which is great news for an arcadey game like this. The trailer above, released over the weekend at The MIX, explores how the game brings together those inspirations. You can wishlist Wave Break on Steam.
